SARASOTA - Despite deciding last year to pursue different "Housing First" and new shelter initiatives to combat homelessness throughout Sarasota, city and Sarasota County officials now find themselves back together at square one. In January the county's proposal to build a new homeless shelter at Myrtle Street and Butler Avenue sputtered amid cost concerns and public protest, and last month, city homelessness director Doug Logan left his post after only eight months on the job.
